Architectural rendering cost is not determined by image count alone. A quote reflects the amount of information that must be interpreted, modeled, styled, rendered and reviewed to produce a decision-ready result. Two projects asking for “five images” can require very different effort: one may supply a coordinated Revit model and approved finishes; the other may begin with PDFs, evolving design intent and a large landscape context.
The seven variables that drive architectural CGI cost
1. Starting geometry
A clean, coordinated 3D model can shorten setup, but it is not automatically render-ready. BIM and design models are built for documentation, not final imagery; they may contain overlapping elements, placeholder components, excessive detail or missing surfaces. A studio still needs to inspect, clean and optimize the file. When only plans, elevations and sections are available, modeling becomes a larger part of scope.
2. Number of genuinely unique scenes
Several angles within one furnished room reuse more assets than the same number of views spread across a lobby, apartment, amenity deck and exterior. Ask whether a quote counts images, environments or camera setups. That distinction explains many apparent pricing differences.
3. Asset and styling complexity
Bespoke furniture, branded fixtures, complex landscaping, crowds, vehicles and detailed adjacent context require sourcing, modeling or art direction. A premium hospitality interior with custom joinery is a different production task from a white-box leasing view, even at the same resolution.
4. Design certainty
Visualization often reveals unresolved design decisions. If façade materials, lighting, furniture or planting are still open, the CGI team may be asked to explore options as well as produce finals. That can be valuable, but it should be scoped as design development rather than treated as a correction to completed work.
5. Output format and resolution
A still image, animation, 360 virtual tour and real-time walkthrough do not share the same production model. Print campaigns need larger files and more fine-detail checking. Animation adds shot planning, motion, frame rendering, editing and sound. Real-time work adds optimization, interaction design, packaging and device testing.
6. Review structure
Controlled review gates make cost predictable. A typical sequence separates camera and geometry approval from materials and lighting, then from final high-resolution output. Late changes to an approved camera or geometry can invalidate downstream work. A proposal should state included rounds, what each round is for and how additional revisions are handled.
7. Schedule and concurrency
A compressed launch may require several artists to work in parallel and managers to prioritize approvals. The practical question is not simply “How fast can this render?” but “Can drawings, decisions and feedback arrive quickly enough to keep production moving?” For genuinely time-critical work, review the express rendering workflow.

What to include for an accurate quote
A strong request for proposal gives every studio the same decision context. Include:
- the project type, location and current design stage;
- a precise deliverables schedule: quantity, format, orientation, resolution and intended use;
- available CAD, BIM, SketchUp or other 3D files plus a sample drawing set;
- approved material, furniture, landscape and brand references;
- preferred viewpoints or the decision each image must communicate;
- the final launch date and dates when design inputs will be frozen;
- the people responsible for consolidated feedback;
- any confidentiality, procurement or source-file requirements.

How to compare architectural visualization quotes
Normalize the proposals before comparing totals. Check whether modeling, furniture, landscaping, retouching, project management, review rounds, image licensing, output sizes and taxes are included. Confirm whether a low price assumes a supplied render-ready model or excludes scene building that your project actually needs.
Then compare the less visible factors: Who interprets the brief? How are cameras approved? Is feedback consolidated? What constitutes a change in scope? Who checks architectural consistency? A portfolio proves aesthetic capability; a clear process shows whether that capability can survive a deadline.
Do not buy “a render” in isolation. Buy an agreed visual decision, produced from defined inputs, through approval gates, for a stated use.
How to reduce cost without weakening the result
- Prioritize viewpoints. Commission the images that answer distinct sales or approval questions rather than near-duplicates.
- Freeze inputs by milestone. Resolve geometry before material polish and materials before finals.
- Reuse a coordinated scene. Plan future stills, animation or interactive output early so assets can be built with reuse in mind.
- Provide references with decisions attached. “Use this stone” is faster than a broad mood board with no hierarchy.
- Name one feedback owner. Consolidated comments prevent contradictory revisions.
- Match fidelity to channel. A distant massing image does not need the same interior asset detail as a full-page hero.
